Hopefully, they don't take him another 5 years to get to. I'm very hopeful that this is, however, not Frank's best still and there are higher highs in his career. It took a long while to get here, but he finally released a follow-up to Channel Orange that is better than it. These moments are hard to notice in a first listen.īlonde is a beautiful album, it is Frank Ocean's best output. Frank crooning "I may be younger, but I'll take care of you", the bridge in the song Nights, the entirety of White Ferrari.
There are so many great moments on this album. Frank has undoubtedly created a beautiful collection of songs here, songs which are introspective, songs which are so pleasing to the ear, songs which have great lyricism. This stuff was a little hard for me to take in, at the beginning, but I've been listening to the album non-stop for the last week or so, and it has really grown on me. Blond starts with an auto-tuned Frank voice singing "These bitches want Nikes" and contains the track "Be Yourself" (which is one of Frank's friend's mother talking on the phone about how drugs make a person sluggish, lazy, stupid and unconcerned). And Channel Orange was much more accessible than Blond. The album features guest vocals from André 3000, Beyoncé, and Kim Burrell, among others. It was released on August 20, 2016, as a timed exclusive on the iTunes Store and Apple Music, and followed the August 19 release of Oceans video album Endless.
